What’s the difference between a geriatric care manager and a case manager at a hospital?

💬 A case manager at a hospital usually works for that hospital or healthcare system. They help patients during a short time, like after surgery or a hospital stay. A geriatric care manager (GCM) works for your family and stays involved over the long term. They help manage care at home, talk with all your providers, and guide you through each step, even when things change.

Can a geriatric care manager help with memory loss or early dementia?

💬 Yes, they can. A GCM can support families dealing with cognitive decline, including Alzheimer’s and dementia. They help track symptoms, set up memory care evaluations, connect you to brain health resources, and suggest home safety changes. They also teach families what to expect and how to respond with patience and understanding.

How do you charge, hourly or flat fee?
Do you offer emergency support?
Will you stay involved long-term or just for this issue?
Can you help with family disagreements?

Watch out for red flags like:

Lack of experience with older adults

Most GCMs charge between $100 and $250 per hour. Some offer packages for assessments or monthly plans. It may seem expensive, but it can actually save you money by:

Supporting you so you don’t miss work or burn out
