Keystone Eldercare Solutions

Keystone Eldercare Solutions is an eldercare consulting practice serving families in British Columbia, Canada. It is led by Valerie Wiens, a Registered Nurse with nearly four decades of experience across emergency, community health, hospice, and case management settings, along with a background as a nursing instructor.

The practice helps adult children, spouses, and other family caregivers understand their options, plan ahead, and navigate a healthcare system that can be difficult to work through alone, particularly when a diagnosis of dementia, a hospital discharge, or a sudden change in a parent’s condition forces quick decisions.

Services are offered both virtually and in person. A 75-minute virtual consultation is available to families across Canada and includes a personalized assessment, a review of care options, guidance on accessing government-subsidized care in British Columbia, an action plan, and curated resources.

For families in the Comox Valley, ongoing in-person support is offered in tiers: facility advocacy (regular visits, communication with care teams, attendance at care conferences, and monthly reports), community care coordination (which adds home care communication, medical appointment support, family collaboration, and 24/7 emergency contact), custom support that flexes with the intensity of a family’s needs, and a couples package for two partners receiving care.

Valerie is also available for professional speaking and education on aging in place, dementia, caregiving, accessibility, and accessing BC government care.

For families who want to stay in their own homes, Keystone offers a dedicated aging-in-place track. This includes a personalized in-home safety assessment, a comprehensive Age in Place support package, a digital care planning workbook, and Valerie’s book, What Do We Do About Mom?

Her credentials include Gerontological Nursing Certification (GNC(c)), certification as a Teepa Snow Care Consultant for dementia care, MOCA Certified Rater status for cognitive assessment, and Senior Home Safety Specialist certification through Age Safe Canada. A free 15-minute introductory consultation is available to discuss a family’s situation before committing to services. Please contact the company directly for current pricing and for details about specific services.
